Step 1 - Open the photo |
If it isn't already open, open the photo you wish to work on. |

Step 2 - Choose the Freehand Selection tool |
From the Tools toolbar, choose the Freehand Selection tool. |
Select this tool for me. |

Step 3 - Set Tool Options |
In the Tool Options palette, set the Selection type to Freehand, set Feather to 15, and mark the Anti-alias checkbox. |

Step 4 - Select the focus area |
Create the selection by dragging around target area; release the mouse button to complete the selection. |

Step 5 - Sharpen the selection |
Choose Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask, and set the Radius to 2. |

Step 6 - Invert the selection |
Choose Selections > Invert to isolate the rest of the image from the selection. |

Step 7 - Blur the selection |
Choose Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the Radius to 3. |

Step 8 - Remove the selection marquee |
Choose Selections > Select None to remove the marquee and reveal the results. |
